No. 6 Delaware Valley 40, Montclair State University 6

DOYLESTOWN (PA) -- The Delaware Valley College wrestling team, ranked sixth in Division III, won nine of 10 weight classes, en route to a 40-6 victory over visiting Montclair State University in a non-conference match.

With the victory, the Aggies improved to 2-2 in dual meets, including a perfect 2-0 mark against Division III opponents. They are off until Tuesday, January 11 when they travel to Wilkes University for a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) match. Montclair State dropped its first dual meet of the season and is 3-1.

Delaware Valley trailed 6-4 after the second bout as Montclair State's John Vogel pinned Tim Berke in 88 seconds of the 184-pound match. However, the Aggies were victorious in the final eight weight classes, including three by fall.

Jamall Johnson started the run by winning his 13th match of the season (13-5), an 18-3, technical victory over Mike Berger at 197 pounds. Mike Moore followed with a 10-4 decision over Chris Johnson at heavyweight and Ryan Finkbiner pinned Mustafa Omara in 5:16 of the 125-pound match for an 18-6 Delaware Valley advantage.

Two-time All-American and second-ranked Barry Wise won his eighth match of the season with a 10-7 decision over Anthony Iazetta at 133 pounds. 2004 NCAA qualifier Dan dropped Jake Noy with 33 seconds left in the first period at 141 pounds, and Rob Jiminez (149) followed with a 13-6 decision over Alan Aponte to up the Aggie lead to 30-6.

John Powell made it 36-6 as the junior 157-pounder led 6-1 before pinning Jason Brandt with 21 seconds left in the first period. Returning All-American Jason Shivak ended the match with a dominating, 18-5 major decision over Aaron Salma at 165 pounds. The win was the sixth of the season and the 89th of Shivak's career as he moved past current assistant head coach Shaun Smith for 11th place on the Delaware Valley all-time victory list.

Delaware Valley's Rocky Mantella, ranked fifth in Division III at 174 pounds, opened the afternoon with a 16-3 major decision over Jake Beitz to improve to 8-2 on the year.
