Wrestling No. 3 Delaware Valley 38,
Messiah College 3 GRANTHAM (PA) -- The Delaware Valley
College wrestling team, ranked third in Division III, won nine of 10 weight classes
to notch a 38-3 victory over host Messiah College in a Middle Atlantic Conference
(MAC) match. The win improved the Aggies to 10-3 on the season (6-1 versus
Division III opponents), including a 3-0 mark in the conference. They will battle
King's College, University of Scranton and Wilkes University at Saturday's MAC
Duals hosted by Lycoming College. Nationally-ranked wrestlers Mike Weston
(125) and Jamall Johnson (197) won by fall against Messiah, as did heavyweight
Mike Moore. Weston, ranked sixth nationally in his weight class, downed Josh Cragg
40 seconds into the second period. Johnson, who is third in his weight class,
needed 3:15 to drop Mike Orfanos. Moore picked up his second pin in as many nights
by taking down Ethan Bucarey in 4:01. Jason Shivak, who is ranked seventh
at 174 pounds, earned a 21-5, technical fall victory over Tony Valenti. The rest
of the Aggie wins were decisions by Barry Wise (133), Tom Becker (141), Rick Frondorf
(149), John Powell (157) and Andrew Helms (197). Wise, who is ranked
second in Division III, notched a 9-4 triumph over Geoff Harner for his 98th career
victory. He has a chance this weekend to become just the eighth wrestler in Delaware
Valley's storied history to reach the 100-win plateau.
