NORTH/SOUTH DUALS Delaware
Valley 45, King's College 3 Delaware Valley 39, University of Scranton 9 Delaware
Valley 44, Wilkes University 3 WILLIAMSPORT (PA) - Delaware Valley
College continued its winning ways in the Middle Atlantic Conference as the third-ranked
Aggies swept a trio of matches at the MAC North/South Duals (hosted by Lycoming
College).
Delaware Valley opened with a 45-3 victory over King's College
and followed with a 39-9 triumph over the University of Scranton. The Aggies then
completed the day with a 44-3 rout of Wilkes University to improve their record
to 13-3 overall (9-1 against Division III opponents) and a perfect 6-0 in the
MAC. Delaware Valley has now 21 consecutive conference dual meets dating
back to the 2001-02 season. The Aggies have one more conference match this season
and it's the biggest of them all as they will head-to-head with ninth-ranked and
archrival Lycoming in Williamsport on Thursday, February 3 (7:30 p.m.). Barry
Wise, who is ranked second nationally at 133 pounds, made history on Saturday
afternoon as the senior became just the eighth wrestler in school history to surpass
the 100-win plateau with the Aggies. The two-time All-American entered the day
with 98 career victories and began by pinning John Houssock of King's in 65 seconds.
The milestone victory was a forfeit by Scranton, but Wise followed in style with
win number 101 as he dropped Joe Yutko of Wilkes with 10 seconds remaining in
the first period (2:50). Fellow nationally-ranked wrestlers Mike Weston
(125), Jason Shivak (174) and Andrew Helms (184) also went 3-0 at the Duals. Weston,
ranked sixth in his weight class, improved to 14-3 with a pin, major decision
and decision. Shivak, ranked seventh nationally, moved closer to the
100-win plateau as well with a pin, technical fall and a decision. That upped
his season record to 15-5 and his career victory total to 99. Helms, who
is ranked fifth in his weight class, went over the 100-win plateau for his career
(102) with 84 coming as an Aggie after he transferred in from Wilkes three years
ago. He was awarded a forfeit in his first match and followed with a pin and a
decision to up his season record to 24-4. DELAWARE VALLEY 45,
