Wrestling No. 6 Delaware Valley 41,
Albright College 8 DOYLESTOWN (PA) -- The Delaware Valley
College wrestling team, ranked sixth in Division III, recorded victories in the
final six matches, including three by fall, as the Aggies rallied from an early
deficit and downed Albright College 41-8 in a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC)
match. Delaware Valley (1-2) trailed 8-7 after the first four matches,
but John Powell pinned Brandon Cuffee 38 seconds into the second period of their
157-pound match to give the Aggies the lead for good at 13-8. Returning
All-American Jason Shivak followed at 165 pounds and picked up his fourth victory
of the season with a 13-1 major decision over Esrom Montesino. Eric Warbuton then
pinned Paul LaPlaca in 2:10 at 174 pounds to up the Aggie advantage to 23-8.
Andrew Helms (184) and Jamall Johnson (197) picked up forfeit victories and
Mike Moore ended the match by dropping his heavyweight opponent, Kevin West, in
just 54 seconds Delaware Valley's Ryan Finkbiner opened the match with
his first collegiate victory, a 12-2 major decision over Brandon Boulden. The
Aggies' other victory of the day was a 12-5 decision by Barry McBain against Matt
Fay at 141. Albright (3-2) picked up major decision victories at 133 and
149 pounds for its eight points. Wade Ginter notched a 13-1 victory over Mike
Handleman at 133, while Pat Murray defeated Alan Schwartzbeck, 13-5 at 149 pounds.
