Aggies Compete At York College Spartan
Invitational
YORK (PA) -- The Delaware Valley College wrestling team, ranked
sixth in Division III, took part in the remodified York College
Spartan Invitational as only three of the eight teams (Delaware
Valley, No. 19 York and Carson-Neumann) that were scheduled to take
part in the tournament competed in the event due to the inclement
weather. No team scoring was held and the wrestlers competed in
round robin action.
Thee Aggies went undefeated on Saturday, including nationally-ranked
wrestlers Barry Wise and Andrew Helms. Wise, a returning All-American
who is ranked second at 133 pounds, went 2-0 with a pair of pins.
He downed Jake Brumblelow of Carson-Neumann in 5:25 and followed
with a pin of Mike Troast of York in 2:39. Wise is now 10-3 on the
season with six pins.
Helms, a returning national qualifier who is sixth at 197 pounds,
improved to 13-1 on the season with three victories at the tournament.
He pinned Drew Baldauf of York in 4:45 and then earned a 6-3 decision
over Jeff Malone of York. Helms then notched a 19-5 major decision
over Tim Freel of Carson-Neumann to complete the perfect showing.
Freshman Rob Jiminez also went 3-0 as the 141-pounder improved
to 8-5 on the year. He edged teammate Tom Becker, 3-2, in one match
and followed with a 5-2 decision over Luis Quinnoes of York. Jiminez
then wrestled fellow Aggie Dave Giamoni and pinned him 11 seconds
into the third period (5:11).
