Delaware Valley College 38, Wilkes University 10

DOYLESTOWN (PA) -- The Delaware Valley College wrestling team, ranked ninth in Division III, notched five falls, en route to a 38-10 victory over visiting Wilkes University in a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) match.

Wayne Helms (Hwt), Barry Wise (133), Dan Hall (141), Jason Shivak (174) and Andrew Helms (197) all pinned their opponents as the Aggies improved to 9-5 overall and 1-0 in the MAC. The Colonels fell to 5-6, 0-2.

The match began at heavyweight and Wayne Helms (11-9) downed Keith Altiery with eight seconds left in the first period to give Delaware Valley a 6-0 lead. Wise, a returning All-American who is ranked third in the country in his weight class, pinned Joe Yutko in 4:11 to up his mark to 19-6. Hall improved to 15-6 as the freshman downed Mike Sciula in 4:21.

Shivak continued his unbeaten season as he dropped Alessandro Plutino with 34 seconds left in the match. The junior is now 17-0 and ranked sixth in Division III in his weight class. Andrew Helms ended the match by pinning Vince Abbott in 81 seconds. He is now 23-1 and ranked fifth nationally.

Mike Berlanda and Josh Housekeeper picked up major decisions for Delaware Valley. Berlanda improved to 10-9 at 157 pounds as he posted a 13-4 victory over Joe Diliberto. Housekeeper, a 2002 All-American who is ranked fourth at 174 pounds, blanked Fritz Delva 9-0 to up his mark to 16-7.

Wilkes earned its points at 125, 149 and 165 pounds. Jeremy Mayer notched a 10-0 major decision over Mike Handleman at 125 for his 22nd win of the season (22-9). Mike Ferrara went to 17-5 with a 8-2 triumph over Jeremy Messinger and Kyle Lenio upped his record to 22019 with a 5-0 shutout over Kevin Moore.
