WILLIAMSPORT (PA) - The Delaware Valley College wrestling team,
ranked ninth in Division III, improved to 13-5 overall and 5-0 in
the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) as the Aggies swept a trio
of matches at the 2004 MAC North/South Duals held at Lycoming College.
Delaware Valley opened with a 30-10 triumph over King's College
(7-9) and followed with 55-0 and 52-3 victories over The University
of Scranton (1-11) and Elizabethtown College (1-8) respectively.
Nationally-ranked wrestlers Barry Wise (133), Jason Shivak (174),
Josh Housekeeper (184) and Andrew Helms (197) each went 3-0 at the
Duals as did senior Jeremy Messinger (157). Heavyweight Wayne Helms
was a perfect 2-0 on the afternoon.
Wise, ranked third in Division III in his weight class, pinned John
Houssouck of King's in 31 seconds and Tom Elicker of Elizabethtown
in 1:50 and received a forfeit victory against Scranton.
Shivak, ranked sixth in his weight class, remained unbeaten at 21-0
as he downed Zach Dictrick of King's in 2:53 and Mike Zulkowski
of Elizabethtown in 1:26. His other triumph was a 14-4 major decision
over Scranton's Ron Saglimbene.
Housekeeper, who is fourth nationally, opened with major decision
victories of 8-0 over Mike O'Hara of King's and 12-0 over Trevor
Needham of Scranton before notching a seven-second pin of Elizabethtown's
John Garganta.
Andrew Helms, who is ranked fourth at 197 pounds, began with a 16-6
major decision against Jason Reilly of King's. He then dropped Scranton's
Matt Butler in 31 seconds and Elizabethtown's Eric Guise in 2:24.
Messinger moved up a weight class and responded with three victories.
He earned a 9-3 decision against Drew Dehaut of King's and followed
with a first-period fall (2:16) over Donell Young of Scranton. He
ended the day by pinning Vinny Camacho of Elizabethtown in 20 seconds.
Wayne Helms blanked James Bishop of King's for an 8-0 major decision
and sat out of the Scranton match. He then concluded Delaware Valley's
perfect day by pinning Elizabethtown's Paul Mazzei in just 17 seconds.
It was the sixth straight pin and seventh overall in the match against
the Blue Jays.
