Pitt-Johnstown 29, Delaware Valley 9
JOHNSTOWN (PA) -- The Delaware Valley College wrestling team and
new head coach Brandon Totten opened its 2002-03 season with a 29-9
loss at Division II powerhouse Pitt-Johnstown.
Totten, a two-time Division III national champion and 1996 graduate
of Delaware Valley College, took over the coaching reigns in July
following the retirement of Robert Marshall.
Pitt-Johnstown, which finished sixth at the Division II National
Championships last season, won eight of the 10 matches including
the first six weight classes as the Mountain Cats build a 22-0 lead.
Junior Jeremy Messinger put the Aggies on the board at 157 pounds
as he pinned Bruno Iorfido in 4:24 seconds. Messinger placed third
at the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships last season.
Delaware Valley's remaining points came from returning All-American
Josh Housekeeper as the junior posted a 13-7 decision over Mike
DeBartolo at 184 pounds. Housekeeper won his MAC title last year
at 174 pounds then placed sixth in the weight class at the NCAA
Division III Championships.
Freshman Desmond Wiggins and sophomore B.J. Wise suffered one-point
decisions in their matches at 125 and 141 pounds respectively.
