Delaware Valley 21, Messiah College 19

GRANTHAM (PA) - Delaware Valley ended regular season action undefeated in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) as the seventh-ranked Aggies edged No. 23 Messiah College, 21-19.

The improved Delaware Valley to 17-3 0verall and 7-0 in the MAC. The Aggies do not wrestle again until the MAC Championships at King's College on February 21 and 22 as they try to win their second conference title in a row and their 11th overall crown.

Delaware Valley won just four of 10 matches at Messiah but earned bonus points in each match with two pins, a technical fall and a major decision.

Down 9-5 after the first four matches (which began at 133 pounds), nationally-ranked wrestlers Jason Shivak and Josh Housekeeper notched back-to-back pins at 165 and 174 pounds respectively to give the Aggies a 17-9 lead. Shivak, who is ranked fourth in his weight class, downed Tim McGann in 4:49 while Housekeeper, ranked second nationally, needed just 2:03 to pin Tony Valenti.

Messiah won the next weight classes to pull to within one at 17-16, but Delaware Valley heavyweight Kyle Phipps gave the Aggies some breathing room with an 18-6 major decision victory over Ben Towers.

The Aggies' remaining win came in the opening match of the night as B.J. Wise, who is ranked eighth in Division III at 133 pounds, notched a 15-0 (3:44) technical fall victory over Tyle Alexander.
