DOYLESTOWN (PA) - The Delaware Valley College volleyball team opened the 2006 campaign by sweeping a pair of home matches. The Aggies downed Bryn Mawr College, 3-2, in the opener and ended the long afternoon with a 3-1 triumph over Centenary College. Bryn Mawr downed Centenary, 3-0, in the other match of the day.

The first match was 2-hour, 30-minute affair that went the distance. Delaware Valley trailed 1-0 and 2-1 in games before rallying for a 30-24 victory in the fourth game. The Aggies then built a 13-8 advantage in the fifth and deciding game, only to see the Owls scored five straight to tie it up. However, Delaware Valley took the final two points of the match for the victory.

Juniors Andrea Held and Jackie Holdsworth paced the Aggies with 13 and 12 kills respectively and they also combined for 38 digs. Freshman Angel Bulger added eight kill and four aces while Kate Klish had team-best 30 dings and four aces. Bonnie Zobel dished out 40 assists.

Delaware Valley dropped a sloppy, 30-20 decision in the opening game of the Centenary match, but regrouped for scores of 30-21, 30-20 and 30-23. Bulger notched nine kills, 14 digs and five aces while Zobel had eight kills, nine digs and 25 assists. Freshman Jaki Blood added eight kills while Klish was strong defensively with 31 digs.
