Aggies Compete At Falcon Invitational


GRANTHAM (PA) - A pair of school records were set in the hammer throw and nine, top 10 finishes highlighted Delaware Valley College's showing at the Falcon Invitational held at Messiah College.

The Aggie women notched 37 points to finish in eighth place out of 16 teams while the men finished 15th out of 19 squads with 10 points. Messiah took the women's title with 222 points while Bridgewater College (VA) topped all men's teams with 151 points,

In the hammer throw, Anja Fernand finished in 11th place, but her toss of 85 feet, 10 inches topped the previous school mark of 85 feet, 4 inches set by Karen Smith in 2002. On the men's side, Rick Heuman placed 19th with a throw of 86 feet, 1 inch, but it topped Zach Reed's school-record toss of 78 feet, 2 inches from 2005.

Becky Heisey placed in the top six in three separate throwing categories. She was third in the discus with a toss of 34.39 meters and she also finished fifth in the shot put (10.04m) and sixth in the javelin (33.71m).

Jennifer Alderfer continued her strong freshman season as she placed fourth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.05 seconds and seventh in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.11 seconds. Caitlin Dorgan also had a top 10 shoeing as her time of 2 minutes, 29.53 seconds in the 800-meter run was good enough for fourth place.

On the men's side, three Aggies finished in the top 10. Kevin McCoy took sixth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17 minutes, 2 seconds while Dan Fenstermacher was eighth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11 minutes, 16.69 seconds. Kery Swope placed 10th in the 110-meter hurdles as he was clocked at 18.04 seconds.
