Widener University 8, Delaware Valley College 0 (Game 1 - 5 innings)
Widener University 8, Delaware Valley College 7

DOYLESTOWN (PA) - Stephanie Caulford and Krista Cesarine combined for nine hits and nine RBIs to lead Widener University to a non-conference doubleheader sweep of host Delaware Valley College, 8-0 and 8-7.

Caulford had the lone hit in the first inning of the opener, an RBI single, but the Pride (24-10) scored five times thanks to four Aggie errors. Caulford then had an RBI double in the second inning for a 6-0 lead and Widener added two more in the fourth on a two-run double by Krista Cesarine. Caulford finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs while Cesarine was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBIs.

Meanwhile, Kim Dougherty and Christine Bradley combined for a two-hit shutout. Dougherty went the first four innings and allowed both hits - singles by Kim Harle and Kelly Andrews - while fanning three. Bradley pitched a perfect fifth inning.

In the nightcap, Cesarine and Caulford had RBIs in the first inning for an early 2-0 advantage. Widener then scored four times in the second inning off of four hits and three Aggie miscues. Cesarine knocked one in with a single while Rachel O'Leary notched a two-run single.

Delaware Valley (8-16) got two runs back in the bottom of the second as Andrews singled, Brittany Stockert drew a walk and both came around to score on starting pitcher Jennifer Bummer's two-out double.

The Pride made it an 8-2 lead in the sixth inning as Caulford's two-out double brought home a pair of runs. They needed both of those runs as the Aggies refused to go quietly in the seventh as they scored five times and put the tying run on second base.

Delaware Valley loaded the bases with one out and Bethany Pavlik delivered a two-run single for and both she and Lacy Miles moved up a base on the throw. After a fly out, Nicole Dorney singled to bring home both runners for an 8-6 ballgame. Stockert reached on the second error of the inning by Widener and Maureen Ferguson followed with a single that scored Harle (pinch-running for Dorney) and put Stockert at second. However, starting pitcher Kelsey Shultz came back into the game for the Pride and recorded a strikeout to end the Aggies' comeback.

Shultz earned her sixth win of the season as she went five-plus innings and allowed two runs and three hits while fanning four. Caulford finished 4-for-4 with three RBIs while Cesarine was 1-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs.

Dorney and Pavlik each went 2-for-4 with two RBIs for Delaware Valley. Bummer was 2-for-2 with a pair of RBIs and also took the loss on the mound, despite allowing just three earned runs.
