TUCSON (AZ) - Delaware Valley College concluded its first-ever Spring
Break trip to Arizona with a 2-6 record as the Aggies split a pair
of games on Tuesday. Delaware Valley dropped a 6-3 decision to the
University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse, but bounced back with a 17-3 rout
of University of Massachusetts-Boston in the nightcap.
The Wiscon-LaCrosse game saw the Aggies tie it up a 2-2 as senior
third baseman Kelly Andrews connected on a two-run homer in the
top of the third. However, the Eagles (9-1) answered with two runs
in the bottom of the inning and added two more in the fourth for
a 6-2 lead.
Delaware Valley got a final run in the seventh inning on an RBI
single by Lauren Fenstermacher. Andrews went 1-for-3 with the home
run while Brittany Stockert went 2-for-3. Jennifer Bummer pitched
the first three inning and suffered the loss despite giving up just
one earned run.
In the Massachusetts-Boston contest, Delaware Valley sent 12 batters
to the plate and scored eight runs. Kim Harle had the big blow with
a three-run double. The Aggies added three more in the second and
two in the third with the last two coming on a home run by sophomore
Bethany Pavlik. It was Pavlik's second home run of the season.
Massachusetts-Boston (0-4) scored its three runs in the fourth
inning, but the Aggies answered with four in the bottom of the stanza,
including the first collegiate home run by senior outfielder Fawn
Harmer. The game was called after five innings due to the eight-run
rule.
Pavlik finished 3-for-4 with the home run, three runs scored and
four RBIs. She also pitched the final three innings - her first
on the collegiate level - and was credited with the win. Harle knocked
in three runs while Harmer was 1-for-2 with the home run.
