Dickinson College 4, Delaware Valley College 2
TUCSON (AZ) - The Delaware Valley College softball team opened its
2008 season with a pair of losses on its first Spring Break trip
to Arizona. The Aggies began Friday with a 6-3 loss to Robert Morris
College-Chicago and ended the day with a 4-2 setback to Dickinson
College.
Delaware Valley, which has all but one starter back from last year's
Freedom Conference semifinalist team, has spent previous spring
breaks in South Carolina and Florida, but raised money to fly out
West this season. The start was not as it hoped as Robert Morris-Chicago
(9-1) scored five runs in the opening inning and never looked back.
Kelly Andrews knocked in all three runs for the Aggies with a bases-clearing
double in the fifth inning to make it a 6-3 ballgame. However, they
did not get a hit the rest of the way and finished the game with
just three as Maureen Ferguson notched a double and Kim Harle had
a single. Jennifer Bummer suffered the loss.
In the Dickinson (6-5) contest, Harle had a two-out, two-run single
in the fourth inning to tie it up at 2-2. However, the Devils scored
twice in the sixth and made it stand the rest of the way.
Harle finished 2-for-4 with the two RBIs. Lauren Fenstermacher
went 2-for-3 while Bethany Pavlik was 2-for-4. Kirstyn Ruhling took
the loss despite allowing just two earned runs and five hits over
six innings.
