Delaware Valley College 25, Penn State
Abington 1 (Game 1 - 5 inn)
Delaware Valley College 16, Penn State Abington 0 (Game 2 - 5 innings)
ABINGTON (PA) - Senior Nicole Dorney went a combined 5-for-7 with
six runs scored and seven RBIs and, in the process, became Delaware
Valley College's all-time leader in RBIs as the Aggies swept host
Penn State Abington, 25-1 and 16-0. Both games were called after
five innings due to the eight-run mercy rule.
Dorney entered the twinbill needing to knock in five runs to break
1998 graduate Lorie Kochanski's record of 83 RBIs. The three-time,
all-conference catcher tied the mark in the opener, as she went
3-for-4 with four RBIs, including a three-run homer in the fifth
inning. The round tripper was the 16th of Dorney's career, adding
to her school record in that category. She also tied a single-game
record in the first game as she crossed home plate five times.
Dorney then broke the RBI record in the nightcap with a second-inning
single. She knocked in two more runs with a fifth-inning double
and finished the game 2-for-3.
Bethany Pavlik also had a big showing for Delaware Valley (5-9)
in the opener as the sophomore went 3-for-5 with four runs scored
and five RBIs, including a grand slam homer in the fourth inning.
It was her team-best fourth home run of the season.
Robyn Jackson added to the 20-hit attack by going 4-for-5 with
two runs scored and three RBIs. Lacy Miles went 3-for-4 with three
RBIs and joined Dorney and three others in the past with a record-tying
five runs scored. Brittany Stockert also went 3-for-4 with three
runs scored and three RBIs.
Jennifer Bummer set a single-game record of her own as the senior
broke her own mark with 10 strikeouts. She allowed just one run
and two hits over the five innings, en route to her second win of
the season.
The nightcap saw Pavlik start her first collegiate game on the
mound (she appeared in relief and picked up a win earlier in the
year). She responded with a three-hit shutout and five strikeouts
and also added two hits and three runs scored at the plate. Kim
Harle and Ashley Lynch-Giangregorio had two hits apiece while Christin
Yacco had a pinch-hit, two-run single.
