College 0 (Game 1)
Lebanon Valley College 8, Delaware Valley College 3 (Game 2 - 8
innings)
DOYLESTOWN (PA) - Lebanon Valley College scored five times in the
eighth inning of the nightcap to complete a non-conference doubleheader
sweep of host Delaware Valley College, 3-0 and 8-3.
The Aggies (3-9) forced extra innings in the second game as senior
third baseman Kelly Andrews hit a two-out single that brought home
Lacy Miles for a 3-3 ballgame in the fifth inning. Both teams failed
to score in the final two innings of regulation, setting up the
eighth inning and the international tiebreaker rule that puts a
runner on second to start a stanza.
The Flying Dutchmen (11-6) brought that runner and four others
in to break the game wide open. Aileen Davies knocked in the go-ahead
run with a single while two hits batsmen and a pair of wild pitches
resulted in the remaining runs.
Lebanon Valley jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the contest before the
Aggies cut it in half in the bottom of the first on an RBI double
by Bethany Pavlik. Andrews tied it up in the third with a two-out
single, but the Flying Dutchmen responded in the fourth with Katie
Freeman's RBI single. Andrews came through again to force extra
innings where it was all Lebanon Valley from there.
Allix Sanders picked up the win for Lebanon Valley while Davies
(2-for-3) and Caitln Keller (2-for-2) had multiple-hit games. Andrews
finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs for Delaware Valley while Miles was
2-for-4 with two runs scored.
The opener was all Valerie Malizzia as the freshman pitcher tossed
a three-hit shutout and struck out 10 Aggies while improving to
5-12 on the year. She took a perfect game into the fifth inning
until Nicole Dorney floated a shot just over the third baseman's
head and into left field for a single.
Malizzia faced a big threat in the sixth inning as, down 2-0, Delaware
Valley put runners on first and second as Kim Harle drew a walk
and Miles singled to center with two outs. However, Malizzia recorded
a strikeout to end the inning.
Lebanon Valley built its 2-0 lead with single runs in the second
and fifth innings. In the second, Chelsea Artz delivered a run-scoring
single while Kristen Uhas notched an RBI double in the fifth. After
Malizzia got out of the jam in the sixth, Linley Eberhart led off
the top of the seventh with a bomb over the left field fence for
her first home run of the season. Eberhart went 2-for-3 in the game.
Kirstyn Ruhling took the loss for the Aggies in the opener, despite
allowing just three runs (two earned) and five hits in seven innings
of action. Pavlik had the remaining hit in the game for Delaware
Valley as she went 1-for-3.
