Delaware Valley College 6, FDU-Florham 4 (Game 2)
MADISON (NJ) - Bethany Pavlik went 3-for-3 with a double, home run,
two runs scored and three RBIs in the second game as Delaware Valley
College salvaged a split of its Freedom Conference twinbill at FDU-Florham.
The Devils took the opener 9-1 before the Aggies rebounded with
a 6-4 triumph.
In the second game, Pavlik notched a single in the first inning,
a solo home run over the center field fence in the third, a bases
loaded walk in the fifth and an RBI double in the seventh. The home
run was the sophomore's fifth of the season as she leads the team
in that category as well as batting average (.429), slugging (.815),
hits (23), RBIs (23), run scored (18) and doubles (6).
Pavlik's double in the seventh gave Delaware Valley (7-13, 3-3
Freedom) a 4-1 lead. The Aggies added to the lead in the stanza
as Kelly Andrews plated a run on a groundout and Nicole Dorney produced
a run-scoring single. Delaware Valley then had to hold on in the
bottom of the inning as the Devils scored three times, including
an RBI triple by Christine Heyl and a solo homer by Amy Beideman.
Jennifer Bummer picked up her third win of the year for the Aggies
as she allowed four runs on eight hits while striking out six. Lacy
Miles went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored while Andrews
knocked in a pair of runs.
Miles gave Delaware Valley a 1-0 lead in the first inning of the
opener as she smacked her second home run of the season. However
it was FDU-Florham (19-12, 4-6) the rest of the way as they scored
in each of the four innings that it batted in. The game was called
after five innings due to the eight-run mercy rule.
Heyl went 2-for-3 with a home run and a run batted in for the Devils
while Marysa Cole was 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles and two RBIs.
Leah Minnich was just 1-for-1 but she scored two runs and knocked
in three. Katelyn Smith, who started the second game as well, picked
up the win as she allowed just one run and four hits while fanning
seven.
