Delaware Valley College 10, New Jersey City University 1 (Game 2)

COCOA BEACH (FL) - The Delaware Valley College softball team opened its 2007 season by sweeping a doubleheader from New Jersey City University on the team's Spring Break trip to Florida. The Aggies posted a 4-2 victory in the opener and completed the perfect day with a 10-1 triumph in the nightcap.

The opener was tied at 2-2 until Delaware Valley notched single tallies in the fifth and sixth innings. In the fifth, Kim Harle stole third and scored on an error. The sixth saw Fawn Harmer triple to right and then score on a bunt by Kirstyn Ruhling.

Ruhling picked up the win on the mound as the junior went the full seven innings and allowed two runs on 10 hits while fanning six. Harle was 3-for-3 with a pair of runs scored while Robyn Jackson was 1-for-4 with two RBIs.

In the nightcap, Delaware Valley gave up a first-inning run, before exploding for five runs in the fourth and five more in the sixth. The game was called with two outs in the sixth due to the eight-run mercy rule.

Freshman Nancy Kaufmann had the big blow in both innings with a pair of two-run doubles. She finished 2-for-3 with the four RBIs. Nicole Dorney and Bethany Pavlik scored two runs apiece. Jennifer Bummer picked up the win as she went six innings and allowed just one unearned run and two hits while striking out nine.
