COCOA BEACH (FL) - The Delaware Valley College softball team opened
its 2007 season by sweeping a doubleheader from New Jersey City
University on the team's Spring Break trip to Florida. The Aggies
posted a 4-2 victory in the opener and completed the perfect day
with a 10-1 triumph in the nightcap.
The opener was tied at 2-2 until Delaware Valley notched single
tallies in the fifth and sixth innings. In the fifth, Kim Harle
stole third and scored on an error. The sixth saw Fawn Harmer triple
to right and then score on a bunt by Kirstyn Ruhling.
Ruhling picked up the win on the mound as the junior went the full
seven innings and allowed two runs on 10 hits while fanning six.
Harle was 3-for-3 with a pair of runs scored while Robyn Jackson
was 1-for-4 with two RBIs.
In the nightcap, Delaware Valley gave up a first-inning run, before
exploding for five runs in the fourth and five more in the sixth.
The game was called with two outs in the sixth due to the eight-run
mercy rule.
Freshman Nancy Kaufmann had the big blow in both innings with a
pair of two-run doubles. She finished 2-for-3 with the four RBIs.
Nicole Dorney and Bethany Pavlik scored two runs apiece. Jennifer
Bummer picked up the win as she went six innings and allowed just
one unearned run and two hits while striking out nine.
