Delaware Valley College 6, Mayville State University 0 (Game 2)
COCOA BEACH (FL) - Freshman Nancy Kauffman went a combined 4-for-6
with two doubles, two home runs and six RBIs as Delaware Valley
College swept a doubleheader from Mayville State University, 4-3
and 6-0, on the team's Spring Break trip to Florida.
Both teams entered the doubleheader with perfect 3-0 marks. Delaware
Valey also avenged a loss from last year as Mayville State notched
an 11-2 victory in a single game.
The Aggies scored three times in the top of the first in the opener,
including a two-run double from freshman Nancy Kauffman. Up 3-1
going into the seventh, Delaware Valley put what proved to be a
crucial run on the board as Robyn Jackson notched her second RBI
of the game.
Mayville came back in its half of the seventh and scored twice
on a triple by Chelsa Carley. However, the next batter tapped one
in front of the plate and Jackson, the catcher, threw the runner
out at first and then tagged Carley on the return throw from Lacy
Miles as Carley tried to score the tying run. The next batter grounded
out to second to seal the win.
Kirstyn Ruhling improved to 2-0 as she went the full seven innings
and allowed three runs (two earned) and six hits. Kauffman was 2-for-4
with two RBIs while Jackson was 1-for-2 with a pair of RBIs.
Kauffman and Nikki Zimmerman dominated the second game as Kauffman
went 2-for-2 and tied a school records with two home runs in a single
contest. Each were two-run, round-trippers - one in the first and
one in the second - and she finished with four RBIs.
Meanwhile, Zimmerman won her first outing of the year as the sophomore
hurled a four-hit shutout and fanned two batters over the full seven
innings.
