Biblical University 1 (Game 1 - 5 innings) Delaware Valley 16, Philadelphia
Biblical University 6 (Game 2 - 5 innings) LANGHORNE (PA)
- Sophomore Nicole Dorney went a combined 5-for-6 with four runs scored and seven
RBIs and tied the school's all-time home run record in the process as Delaware
Valley College easily swept host Philadelphia Biblical University in a non-conference
doubleheader, 19-1 and 16-6.
Both games were called after five innings due
to the eight-run mercy rule. The Aggies improved to 7-8 while the Crimson Eagles
fell to 0-10. Dorney smacked a two-run homer in the second inning of the
opener for her second round-tripper of the season and the ninth of her brief collegiate
career. She is now tied with 1994 graduate and Delaware Valley Hall of Famer Kelly
Sciss for the top spot on the list. Dorney, who played third base in the
first game, finished the opener 2-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBIs. She
had plenty of offensive help as the Aggies scored eight times in the first inning
and added nine more in the second for a 17-0 lead. Freshman second baseman
Stephanie Sedeyn went 2-for-3 with a double, triple, three runs scored and five
RBIs. Fellow rookie Katie Shallcross added a 1-for-2 performance with a double
and three RBIs. Freshmen Christine Yacco and Chelsea Ysenchak scored three and
two runs respectively. Yet another rookie, Nikki Zimmernan allowed just one run
and three hits while improving her mark to 2-1. In the nightcap, Delaware
Valley trailed 6-5 after two innings of play, before exploding for six runs in
the third and five more in the fifth. Dorney, who was behind the plate in this
game, went a perfect 3-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and four RBIs. Shallcross,
who picked up the win on the mound, went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs
at the plate. Sophomore shortstop Kim Harle went 2-for-5 with a double, two runs
scored and three RBIs while classmate Maureen Ferguson knocked in a pair of runs. |
