Lycoming College 1, Delaware Valley 0 (Game 2)

DOYLESTOWN (PA) - Morgan Mantle threw a no-hitter in the first game and then combined with Kristen Reese for a three-hit shutout in the nightcap as Lycoming College notched a pair of 1-0, Freedom Conference victories over host Delaware Valley College.

The Lady Warriors have now won four games in a row - all conference outings - to improve to 7-5 overall and 4-2 in the Freedom. The Aggies fell to 7-10 overall and 0-4 in conference play.

Mantle (4-2) retired the first 15 batters she faced in the opener before Fawn Harmer led off the bottom of the sixth with a walk. Harmer moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Maureen Ferguson and then made it to third as Amy DeBuck reached base on an error. However, Mantle notched back-to-back strikeouts to end the threat.

Delaware Valley starter Kirstyn Ruhling matched Mantle on the scoreboard until the seventh. Dana Marek led off the stanza with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice buntt by Christine Caroselli and then to third on Melissa McCoy's single. Mantle grounded to third for the second out of the inning, but Ruhling threw a wild pitch and Marek raced home for a 1-0 lead. Ruhling finished with just one earned run and six hits allowed over the seven innings, but fell to 2-4 on the year.

In the bottom of the seventh, Roby Jackson led off with a single and moved up a base on Kelly Andrews' sacrifice bunt. However, Mantle once again got back-to-back strikeouts to end the game with 12 K's.

In the nightcap, Reese (3-2) retired the first nine batters she faced, before the Aggies loaded the bases with one out in the fourth inning. However, Nicole Dorney lined into a double play to end the inning.

It remained a 0-0 game until the sixth when Lycoming's Marissa Hastings reached base on a walk and came around to score on back-to-back Delaware Valley errors, including a throwing error at the plate on Caroselli's squeeze bunt. The Aggies threatened with one on and one out in the seventh, but Mantle came into pitch and got a pair of strikeouts for her first save of the year.

Stephanie Raziano (1-5) was outstanding in the loss as the sophomore allowed one unearned run and five hits while fanning two. Dorney, Lacey Miles and Katie Shallcross had the lone hits for Delaware Valley.
