Valley College 1 (Game 1) Lebanon Valley College 4, Delaware Valley 2 (Game
2) DOYLESTOWN (PA) - Kirstyn Ruhling pitched a gem on the mound
while Kelly Andrews continued her hot hitting with a home run in the first game
as Delaware Valley College earned a non-conference doubleheader split with a red-hot
Lebanon Valley College squad. The Aggies took a 2-1 decision before suffering
a 4-2 loss in the nightcap. Delaware Valley saw its record move to 10-11
with the split while the Flying Dutchmen, who are off to their best start in school
history and had won 12 of their previous 13 games, moved its mark to 18-4. Ruhling
allowed just one run and six hits in seven innings and improved her record to
4-4 on the season. The sophomore has permitted just two earned runs over the last
22 innings while winning two of those three contests. Andrews went 2-for-2
in the opener, including her second home of the season as she drilled a pitch
into the wind and over the leftfield fence in the fourth inning for a solo round-tripper
and a 2-0 Aggie lead. Delaware Valley scored its first run in the bottom of the
first as Kim Harle (2-for-3) led off with a triple and was knocked in on a Nicole
Dorney (1-for-2) single. Lebanon Valley got its lone run in the fifth inning
as Crystal Nolen (2-for-3) smacked her second home run of the season. The Flying
Dutchmen threatened in the seventh as they put runners on first and second with
two outs. However, Ruhling got Lisa DiCristofaro to fly out to right field to
end the contest. In the nightcap, Lebanon Valley hit the scoreboard in the
first inning as Jenn Parks knocked in Lauren Sanford with a single. Delaware Valley
answered with two runs in the bottom half of the stanza as Harle (1-for-4) with
a single and later scored on a single by Andrews (1-for-2). Andrews then scored
on an opposite-field double by Dorney (1-for-3). It stayed 2-1 until the
fifth when Amy Batz (2-for-4) delivered a two-run single for a 3-2 Flying Dutchmen
lead. They then added an insurance run in the seventh on an RBI single by Kelly
O'Toole. Stephanie Raziano suffered the loss for the Aggies despite allowing
just three earned run and six hits over the seven innings. Robyn Jackson had two
of the team's six hits against Lebanon Valley ace Alisa Albers (6-0). |
