Delaware Valley 10, Marywood University 5 (Game 2)

DOYLESTOWN (PA) - The Delaware Valley College softball team opened its new field on campus by sweeping Marywood University in a non-conference doubleheader, 9-1 and 10-5. The first game was called with one out in the sixth inning due to the eight-run mercy rule.

The victories improved the Aggies to 6-7 while the Pacers fell to 2-14.

The opener saw freshman pitcher and William Tennent grad Kirstyn Ruhling up her mark to 4-2 as she allowed just one run and four hits in six innings of work. Ruhling also helped her own cause by going 1-for-2 with a double, a run scored and a RBI.

With the game tied at 1-1, the Aggies scored a pair of runs in both the third and fourth innings and added three more in the fifth for an 8-1 advantage. Delaware Valley then ended the game in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Amy DeBuck that scored Nicole Dorney.

Dorney went 2-for-4 with a pair of long singles off the outfield fence. Fellow rookie Kim Harle went 2-for-3 with a triple, two runs scored and a RBI while another rookie, Fawn Harmer, added two hits and a RBI in three at-bats.

Marywood's lone run came on a RBI double by Megan Haikes in the second inning. Monica Taylor went 2-for-3 in the loss.

In the nightcap, Delaware Valley rallied from an early 5-0 deficit for the doubleheader sweep. The Aggies scored two runs in the third inning on a RBI single by senior Katie Leach and a RBI double by Dorney.

Delaware Valley then took the lead for good by scoring six runs on five hits and two Marywood errors in the fourth inning. The big blow in the inning was a two-out, two-run double by Dorney as she finished the game 3-for-3 with two doubles, two runs scored and two RBIs.

Leach also had a three-hit game as she went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. DeBuck was a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one RBI. Freshman Jennifer Bummer started and picked up the win as she went four innings. Fellow rookie Stephanie Raziano came in to notch the save as she pitched a scoreless and hitless three innings.

Karyn Kollonige paced Marywood with a 2-for-3 showing, including a three-run homer to straight away center field in the Pacer's five-run second inning. Liz Lilik knocked the first two runs in with a single.
