(Game 2) DOYLESTOWN (PA) - The Delaware Valley College softball
team opened its new field on campus by sweeping Marywood University in a non-conference
doubleheader, 9-1 and 10-5. The first game was called with one out in the sixth
inning due to the eight-run mercy rule.
The victories improved the Aggies
to 6-7 while the Pacers fell to 2-14. The opener saw freshman pitcher
and William Tennent grad Kirstyn Ruhling up her mark to 4-2 as she allowed just
one run and four hits in six innings of work. Ruhling also helped her own cause
by going 1-for-2 with a double, a run scored and a RBI. With the game
tied at 1-1, the Aggies scored a pair of runs in both the third and fourth innings
and added three more in the fifth for an 8-1 advantage. Delaware Valley then ended
the game in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Amy DeBuck that scored Nicole Dorney.
Dorney went 2-for-4 with a pair of long singles off the outfield fence. Fellow
rookie Kim Harle went 2-for-3 with a triple, two runs scored and a RBI while another
rookie, Fawn Harmer, added two hits and a RBI in three at-bats. Marywood's
lone run came on a RBI double by Megan Haikes in the second inning. Monica Taylor
went 2-for-3 in the loss. In the nightcap, Delaware Valley rallied from
an early 5-0 deficit for the doubleheader sweep. The Aggies scored two runs in
the third inning on a RBI single by senior Katie Leach and a RBI double by Dorney.
Delaware Valley then took the lead for good by scoring six runs on five hits
and two Marywood errors in the fourth inning. The big blow in the inning was a
two-out, two-run double by Dorney as she finished the game 3-for-3 with two doubles,
two runs scored and two RBIs. Leach also had a three-hit game as she
went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. DeBuck was a perfect 2-for-2 with
two runs and one RBI. Freshman Jennifer Bummer started and picked up the win as
she went four innings. Fellow rookie Stephanie Raziano came in to notch the save
as she pitched a scoreless and hitless three innings. Karyn Kollonige
paced Marywood with a 2-for-3 showing, including a three-run homer to straight
away center field in the Pacer's five-run second inning. Liz Lilik knocked the
