Softball King's College 14, Delaware
Valley 0 (Game 1 - 5 innings) King's College 6, Delaware Valley 2 (Game 2)
DOYLESTOWN (PA) -King's College notched 20 runs and 25 hits on the afternoon as
the five-time defending Freedom Conference champions swept a doubleheader from
host Delaware Valley College, 14-0 and 6-2. The first game was called after five
innings due to the eight-run mercy run. The Lady Monarchs upped their
record to 25-7 overall and 8-2 in the conference with their twinbill sweep. The
Aggies fell to 12-19, 3-9. In the opener, King's put three on the board
with a two-out rally in the first inning and followed with a five-run second inning
for an 8-0 advantage. The Lady Monarchs then scored two runs in each of the next
three stanzas for the 14-0 final. Sarah Genewski improved to 8-2 on the
season as she notched a three-hit shutout while striking out two. Offensively,
Mari Valonis went 4-for-4 with two RBIs while Stacey Preambo was a perfect 3-for-3
with two doubles, two runs scored and three RBIs. Kristin Brady added a 2-for-3
showing and knocked in three runs. Fawn Harmer, Stephanie Raziano and
Jenn Welsh recorded the hits for Delaware Valley, with Raziano smacking a double
in the fifth inning. In the nightcap, Brady gave King's a 1-0 lead in
the second as she hit a pitch over the left field fence for a home run. The Lady
Monarchs made it 3-0 two innings later as Valonis had a RBI single and Kate Shiffer
knocked in a run with a ground out. They then scored a run off a Delaware Valley
error in the fifth and added two more in the sixth on a two-run double by Kelley
Vaxmonsky. The Aggies hit the scoreboard for the first time on the afternoon
in the bottom of the sixth as Harmer walked and Nicole Dorney followed with a
single. Kelly Andrews then found the gap in left-center field for a two-run double.
Nikki Kotula won her ninth game in 12 decisions as she allowed two runs
and four hits while striking out five. Brady finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored
and one RBI. Vaxmonsky was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Raziano pitched a strong
game for the Aggies as she allowed just three earned runs and nine hits over seven
innings. She walked one and struck out two. | |
