Gwynedd-Mercy College 4, Delaware Valley 3

DOYLESTOWN (PA) - Gwynedd-Mercy College rallied for four runs in the top of the seventh inning as the Griffins downed host Delaware Valley College, 4-3, in a non-conference game. The nightcap was suspended after three innings due to darkness.

The Aggies (5-4) jumped out to a 2-0 lead with single runs in the third and sixth innings. Christine Bowie drew a bases loaded walk to score Tammy Banks in the third inning, while Jenn Welsh's knocked in Bowie in the sixth with a fielder's choice.

It stayed that way until the seventh when the Griffins (1-0) loaded the bases with one out. Danielle Curran drilled a two-run double to the left field fence to tie the game. Two batters later, Bowie dropped a fly ball for a two-base error that brought home two runs for a 4-2 Gwynedd-Mercy lead.

The Aggies tried to come back in the bottom of the seventh as, with two outs and a runner, Michelle Smith singled and Bowie drew a walk to lead to the bases. Amy DeBuck smacked a ball to left to score pinch-runner Marlo Jones for a one-run game. However, Griffin pitcher Alexis Bennett got Nicole Bodell to hit a bouncer back to her for the final out.

Bowie went 2-for-2 at the plate while Banks and Smith each went 2-for-4. Smith took the loss on the mound and fell to 3-2 despite allowing just two earned runs and six hits in seven innings.

Bennett allowed just one earned run and notched the win for Gwynedd-Mercy.
