FDU-Florham 10, Delaware Valley 6 (Game 1)
Delaware Valley 2, FDU-Florham 1 (Game 2)

DOYLESTOWN (PA) - Christine Bowie's RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning lifted the Delaware Valley College softball team to a 2-1 victory over visiting FDU-Florham in the second game of a Freedom Conference doubleheader. The Devils took the opener by a 10-6 score.

The split leaves the Aggies 6-7 overall and 1-1 in Freedom Conference while FDU-Florham is now 6-6 and 1-3 in the conference.

In the nightcap, Delaware Valley loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the seventh on a Jen Campbell fielder's choice and back-to-back walks by Ashley Beam and Amy DeBuck. The Aggies' top hitter, Tammy Banks, came to the plate but she hit a dribbler back towards the pitcher and FDU-Florham recorded an out at the plate. Bowie stepped up and the sophomore shortstop drilled the first pitch just down the third-base line to score Beam with the game-winning run.

The second game featured a pitching duel between Delaware Valley's Michelle Smith and FDU-Florham's Amanda Morrison. Neither pitcher gave up a run until the sixth inning when the Devils struck in the top half of the inning. Danielle Curcio opened with a single and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and a ground out. Lillian Hine followed with an RBI single to left and a 1-0 FDU-Florham lead.

The Aggies responded in their half of the inning as Amy Debuck and Banks notched back-to-back singles. Following a fielder's choice and a pop up, Lindsay Eversole hit a single to left-center field to score Banks.

Smith improved to 4-3 on the year as she allowed just one run and five hits in seven innings. Morrison fell to 1-3 despite allowing just two runs and nine hits in six-plus innings.

The first game saw FDU-Florham jump out to a 6-0 advantage with one run in the first and five more in the second. The big blow in the second inning was a two-run single by Morrison.

Delaware Valley answered with six runs in its half of the second, thanks to three hits, three walks and three Devils errors. Pitcher Megan Chapin and Banks each had two-run singles in the inning.

However, FDU-Florham scored single runs in each of the last four innings for the 10-6 victory. Hine's RBI single with two outs in the fourth proved to knock in the game-winning run. Kristle Tarrant picked up the win and improved to 4-2 as she did not allow an earned run and just five hits in seven innings.

Banks went 2-for-4 with the two RBIs for the Aggies. Chapin went 1-for-2 with the two RBIs, but suffered the loss on the mound.
