Widener University 4, Delaware Valley 3 (Game 1)
Widener University 5, Delaware Valley 0 (Game 2)

CHESTER (PA) - The Delaware Valley College softball team dropped a pair of non-conference games to host Widener University on Thursday. The Aggies' late-game heroics were spoiled in a 4-3 loss in the opener, and they followed with a 5-0 defeat in the nightcap.

Delaware Valley is now 5-7 overall while the Pioneers improved to 12-7.

The first game saw Widener score once in the third and two times in the fifth for a 3-0 lead. It remained that way until the top of the seventh when, with one out, Beth Sander singled and Katie Leach drew a walk to bring the tying run to the plate. Freshman Wendy Strohl then smacked a three-run homer over the left field fence to make it a 3-3 contest. The home run was the first of Strohl's collegiate career and it upped her RBI total to a team-best 16 on the season.

However, Widener loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the seventh as Sue Timlin and Jill Boschetti had singles and Jen Couchara was hit by a pitch. Megan Heath then hit a fly ball into foul territory in left field. Christine Bowie caught the ball but her throw to the plate was not in time and Timlin scored the winning run.

The loss spoiled another solid pitching performance from Delaware Valley sophomore Jennifer Moyer. Moyer fell to 3-3 despite allowing just two earned runs in six-plus innings of work. She also fanned four batters.

Steph Masseli earned the win for the Pioneers as she allowed two hits in seven innings. Heath had two RBIs in the game.

The nightcap featured Debbie Sulecki and Nicole D'Annuzio combined for a four-hit shutout. Sulecki went the first four innings and allowed just three hits while D'Annuzio went the rest of the way and allowed one Aggie hit.

Tammy Banks went 2-for-2 for Delaware Valley while Casey Bidlingmaier and Lindsay Eversole notched the remaining hits. Strohl took the loss as she allowed four earned runs in six innings of work.
