Aggies Clinch Fourth And Final Freedom Conference Playoff Spot
DOYLESTOWN (PA) - The Delaware Valley College women's soccer team
clinched a Freedom Conference playoff berth for the second time
in the last three years as the Aggies earned a 1-1, double-overtime
tie with first-place Manhattanville College.
Delaware Valley wrapped up the regular season with a 7-9-3 overall
record and a 1-3-2 mark in the conference. The team finished tied
with 2-4 DeSales and 2-4 FDU-Florham and those three squads split
the games played between them. The next tiebreaker is how a tied
team fared with the other squads in the conference going from top
to bottom. Delaware Valley gets the nod because of the tie with
Manhattanville and both DeSales and FDU-Florham losing to the Valiants
(5-11-3, 5-0-1).
As a result, the Aggies and Manhattanville will meet again, this
time in Purchase, New York for the Freedom Conference semifinals
on Tuesday, October 30 (game time TBA). The other playoff match-up
will feature No. 2 Arcadia University hosting third-seeded Wilkes
University. Delaware Valley went 0-1-2 in the regular season against
the playoff teams with 1-1 ties against Arcadia and Manhattanville
and a 2-1 loss to Wilkes.
Delaware Valley took a 1-0 lead with 23:27 remaining in the first
half as Elise Dauber went through a pair of defender and deposited
her 16th goal of the season. Lisa Rill tied the contest with 9:38
to go before intermission as her shot sailed into the top portion
of the net for her second tally of the year. The two teams then
played scoreless ball the rest of the way, including a pair of 10-minute
overtimes.
The Valiants held a 16-10 advantage in shots. Cortney Bower stopped
11 shots for the Aggies while Ali Bromson had four saves at the
other end.
