2007 SEASON REVIEW
DOYLESTOWN (PA) -- The Delaware Valley College women's soccer team,
under head coach Kevin Doherty, recently concluded its 2007 season.
The Aggies were 7-10-3 overall and qualified for the Freedom Conference
playoffs with a 1-3-2 mark.
It was the third postseason appearance in the 14-year history of
the program and the second in the last three years. Delaware Valley
dropped a 2-0 decision at eventual Freedom Conference champion Manhattanville
College in the semifinals.
Junior forward Elise Dauber (Erie, PA/McDowell) had a year to remember
for Delaware Valley and it culminated with her being named the Freedom
Conference Player of the Year. It marked the fifth time that an
Aggie received the honor as Dauber joined Emilie Replogle, who won
the award three straight years from 1996 to 1998, and Ana Mecaj,
who took home the honor following the 2005 campaign.
Dauber, a two-time first-team selection, led the team and the Freedom
Conference in goals (16), game-winning goals (4) and points (39).
She also paced the Aggies and was tied for second in the league
in assists with seven. Dauber will enter her senior season just
17 points shy of becoming the third player in school history (Replogle
and Mecaj are the others) to reach the 100-point milestone.
Fellow junior Christine Del Turco (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) also
received all-conference honors as she was named to the first team
for the first time in her career. The defender helped Delaware Valley
record four shutouts and limit opponents to 1.5 goals and 15.1 shots
per game.
2005 and 2006 all-conference honoree Emily Perryman (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert)
was limited to just nine games due to injuries. She saw time at
a number of positions and finished with one goal and two assists
for four points.
Seniors Christine Gregory (Warminster, PA/Archbishop Wood) and Brittany
Shubra (Wilmington, DE/McKean) wrapped up their collegiate careers
with standout campaigns. Gregory was a key component to the strong
showing by the Aggie defense. Shubra, a midfielder, was tied for
fourth in the Freedom Conference with five assists and also added
two goals for nine points.
Freshman Jessica Stahley (Schnecksville, PA/Parkland) also placed
among the leaders in the conference in assists as her four helpers
tied for sixth. She also netted four goals and finished second on
the team in scoring with 12 points.
Sophomore Cortney Bower (Perkiomenville, PA/Boyertown) moved back
to her natural position of goalkeeper and responded with a solid
season. She played every minute in net and led the Freedom Conference
in both saves (149) and save percentage (.823). Bower also finished
third in goals against average (1.53) and tied for fourth in shutouts
with four.
Midfielders Elise Carpenter (Earlyville, VA/Western Albermarle)
and Nicki Martini (Flemington, NJ/North Hunterdon) ended the '07
campaign tied for third on the squad with nine points apiece. Carpenter,
a freshman, scored four goals and assisted on another while Martini,
a junior, tallied three goals and three helpers.
Sophomore Melissa Grecco (Ringoes, NJ/Hunterdon Central) and freshman
Mary Conklin (Hamiton, NJ/Steinert) saw significant time during
the year. Grecco appeared in all 20 games with 17 starts while Conklin,
a defender, started all 18 contests she competed in.
Sophomores Ashley Gagliano (Deer Park, NY/Deer Park) and Jacqueline
Minnich (Pine Grove, PA/Blue Mountain), along with freshman Samatha
Loeber (Sicklerville, NJ/Washington Township), combined for 11 points
on the year. Gagliano, a forward, netted two goals for four points
in six appearances. Minnich, a defender, added one goal and one
assist for three points in 19 games. Loeber played in all 20 contests
and the midfielder tallied three assists for three points.
Freshman Meg O'Donnell (Philadelphia, PA/John W. Hallahan) and juniors
Caitlin Renna (Westbury, NY/Waldorf School) and Kristin Warner (Mountville,
PA/Hempfield) each notched a goal for two points to wrap up the
Delaware Valley scorers. O'Donnell, a defender/midfielder, saw action
in six games while Renna, a forward, and Warner, a defender, played
in three and seven games respectively.
