Women's Soccer

Widener University 2, Delaware Valley 1

DOYLESTOWN (PA) - Samantha Hand's goal with just 1:55 remaining lifted the Widener University women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over host Delaware Valley College in a non-conference game.

The Pioneers improved to 8-4-2 with the victory while the Aggies fell back to the .500 mark at 7-7-1.

The game was tied at 1-1 with Delaware Valley having dominated most of the contest. However, with the clock under two minutes, the Aggies failed on a clearing attempt out of their end. Hand got to a loose ball and put it past Delaware Valley goalkeeper in the low right corner.

Widener opened the game quickly, scoring just 98 seconds in as Maggie Donato's corner kick went off of Joyce and into the net. The Aggies tied the contest with 15:36 remaining in the first half as Christine DelTurco sent a crossing pass to Elise Dauber and the freshman deposited it for her fourth goal of the season.

Delaware Valley held a 25-10 advantage in shots, including a 14-3 margin in the second half. Joyce finished with three saves while Kelli Quinn stopped 13 Aggie shots and picked up the victory.
