Delaware Valley 2, Swarthmore College 0

DOYLESTOWN (PA) - Senior Ana Mecaj scored two goals and Delaware Valley College won its fourth game in a row as the Aggies posted a 2-0 blanking of visiting Swarthmore College in a non-conference game.

After starting the year 0-2, Delaware Valley is now 4-2 heading into Freedom Conference play when they travel to FDU-Florham next Tuesday, September 20. Swarthmore fell to 2-4-1 with the loss.

Mecaj, the reigning Freedom Conference Player of the Week, scored a goal in each half to give her a team-best five on the season. The four points also upped her career total to 92 as Mecaj inches closer to becoming just the second player in program history to reach the 100-point milestone (three-time conference MVP and DVC Hall of Famer Emilie Replogle scored 230 points in her career).

Mecaj opened the scoring just 8:18 into the contest as she took a feed from Janelle Smoyer and beat Garnet goalkeeper Lauren Walker high for a 1-0 lead. It stayed that wau until 6:57 remaining in the contest when Mecaj made some moves and beat Walker again for an insurance goal.

Delaware Valley outshot Swarthmore, 22-9, in the contest. Sophomore Emily Joyce picked up her second straight shutout as she made seven saves on the afternoon. Walker finished with 10 stops for the Garnet.
