Women's Soccer - 2005 Season Archive
Head
coach Kevin Doherty and the Aggies finished the 2005 season with
a 10-9-1 overall record and a 4-2-1 mark in the Freedom Conference.
Delaware Valley clinched its first playoff spot since 2000 with
a 2-1 home victory over six-time defending conference champion The
University of Scranton on the last day of the regular season. It
was their first-ever victory over the Lady Royals and it propelled
them into a semifinal match-up at top-seeded Drew University.
The Aggies and Drew played a scoreless game for nearly 86 minutes
when the Rangers scored for a 1-0 victory.
Delaware Valley had three players named to the all-Freedom Conference
first team with two earning special recognition as well. Senior
Ana Mecaj was named the Freedom Conference Player of the Year while
Emily Perryman was selected s the Rookie of the Year. Senior Abby
Worton was also named to the first team.
It was the third time that Mecaj was named to the all-conference
team and it was her first Player of the Year honor. She led the
team in scoring for the fourth straight season as she had 10 goals
and six assists for 26 points. Mecaj finished her career as the
Aggies' second all-time leading scorer with 43 goals and 20 assists
for 106 points.
Perryman had a standout rookie year and was third on the team in
scoring with eight goals and two helpers for 18 points. Worton,
who was a second selection in 2003, headed a defensive unit that
notched six shutout and allowed just 1.4 goals per contest.
