Women's Soccer

Delaware Valley 2, Ursinus College 1

DOYLESTOWN (PA) - Freshman Ana Mecaj scored a goal and assisted on another as the Delaware Valley College women's soccer team topped its entire win total from last season with Saturday's 2-1 victory over visiting Ursinus College in a non-conference game.

The Aggies are now 8-7 overall with four games remaining - all Freedom Conference contests. Head coach Kevin Doherty and his squad have now surpassed last year's 7-10 mark. The loss dropped the Bears to 5-10-1.

After a scoreless first half, Mecaj sent a cross over to senior Tara Corkery who drilled a shot out of mid-air and past Jaime McCormick for a 1-0 Delaware Valley lead with 35:30 left in the game. The goal was Corkery's sixth of the season and the 29th of her career. She is now tied with 2001 grad Stacy Richenderfer for second place on the Aggie all-time goal list.

Six minutes later, Mecaj scored an unassisted goal for her team-best 13th tally of the season. She also leads the squad in assists (five) and points (31). Her point total is already the second-highest, single-season output by a freshman in school history.

Ursinus pulled to within one, 2-1, with 23:44 remaining as Aubrey Andre notched her sixth goal of the year off an assist from Kim Paulus. However, that was as close as the Bears would get in the contest.

Delaware Valley held a 36-20 advantage in shots. Sophomore Lindsay Eversole stopped 15 shots and picked up her eighth win of the year. Three goalkeepers combined for 14 saves for the Bears.
