Women's Soccer

University of Scranton 3, Delaware Valley 2

SCRANTON (PA) - The Delaware Valley College women's soccer teams nearly pulled off the big upset but a late goal gave The University of Scranton a 3-2 squeaker over the Aggies in Freedom Conference action.

The Lady Royals, who won the conference title and reached the NCAA Division III quarterfinals a year ago, improved to 5-3 overall and 2-0 in the Freedom Conference. They extended their winning streak in conference regular-season games to 24. Delaware Valley fell to 4-2, 0-1.

Scranton appeared to have the match in hand when Sara Suchoski scored a goal off an assist by Katrina Baufe at the 16:48 mark of the first half, and Colleen Murphy added an unassisted 11:50 in the second stanza.

The Aggies refused to quit and tied the game up at 2-2 as Katie Leach scored off an assist by Tara Corkery with 27:34 to go and Lauren Rusnak followed with an unassisted tally seven minutes later. For Leach, it was the sophomore's fourth goal of the year while Rusnak, a junior, notched her first goal of the season.

However, Robyn Mason headed in a goal from 10 yards out off a cross from Liz O'Connor with 4:13 remaining to give the Lady Royals the victory.

Sophomore Lindsay Eversole was sensational in goal as she stopped a match-high 16 shots for the Aggies.
