Women's Soccer

Delaware Valley 5, Rutgers-Camden College 4

DOYLESTOWN (PA) - Senior Kirsten Wurzburg scored two goals and assisted on another as the Delaware Valley College women's soccer team opened its 2002 season with a wild, 5-4 non-conference victory over visiting Rutgers-Camden College.

The Aggies fell behind just 50 seconds into the game as Heather Greenwald scored the first of her two goals for the Scarlet Raptors (2-1). However, Delaware Valley scored the next two goals as freshmen Dana Ronyack and Janelle Smoyer recorded their first collegiate goals. Wurzburg assisted on Smoyer's tally.

Heather Greenwald tied the game at 2-2 midway through first half before Wurzburg gave the Aggies a 3-2 halftime lead off an assist by freshman Ana Mecaj.

Rutgers-Camden tied the game 16 minutes into the second half as Rachel Greenwald scored off an assist from Mary Ann Martell. Wurzburg gave the Aggies the lead for good four minutes later with an unassisted tally and Katie Leach made it 5-3 off an assist from Lauren Rusnak. Joclyn Giannone's goal with three minutes remaining pulled the Scarlet Raptors to within one, but that was as close as they would come.

Delaware Valley held a 28-22 edge in shots and 9-5 edge in corners. Lindsay Eversole made 12 saves and picked up the victory for Delaware Valley while Tracy Winter and Jessica Schmidt played a half apiece and combined for 19 saves for Rutgers-Camden.
