Aggies Assure Winning Season, Will Fight For Final Playoff Berth
On Saturday
DOYLESTOWN (PA) - Sophomore Kate Decker notched her first career
hat trick and freshman Dana Ronyack added two goals and an assist
as Delaware Valley College downed King's College, 7-1, in a key
Freedom Conference game for the Aggies.
At 10-8, the victory assured head coach Kevin Doherty and his squad
of just 14 players of its first winning season since the 1998 edition
went 12-4-1. The win - combined with Wilkes' 3-0 triumph over Drew
- also kept the Aggies in the hunt for the fourth and final Freedom
Conference playoff berth.
It will all come down to this Saturday, November 2 (1:00 p.m.) as
Drew hosts Delaware Valley on the artificial turf. The Aggies are
3-3 in conference play and need a victory against the Rangers for
their second-ever trip to the postseason. A loss or a tie would
put Drew (currently at 3-2-1 in the Freedom) back into the playoffs.
Delaware Valley scored the first seven goals of the game against
King's on the rain-soaked field. Decker, who had never scored a
goal in her collegiate career heading into the game, notched the
first two tallies as she connected with 42:26 and 27:05 remaining
on the clock in the first half. Seniors Alicia Leonetti and Tara
Corkery picked up the assists respectively.
Another Kate, Kate Glaab, made it 3-0 with 25:42 to go in the half
as she took a feed from Ronyack and scored her third goal of the
season. Two minutes later, Glaab set up Decker as she wrapped up
her hat trick.
The Aggies weren't done in the first half as freshman Ana Mecaj
scored her conference-best 15th goal of the season with 17:58 remaining.
Corkery picked up the assist on Mecaj's tally.
Ronyack scored both of Delaware Valley's goals in the second stanza
to up her season total to eight. Emily Hane assisted on the Ronyack's
first goal just 4:21 into the half before Ronyack had an unassisted
goal with 22:43 remaining.
King's (3-15, 0-6) spoiled the shutout bid with 9:28 to go as Jen
Toth put one past Aggie goalkeeper Lindsay Eversole off an assist
from Christine Collins. Eversole did finish with 13 saves.
