FDU-Florham 2, Delaware Valley 1

MADISON (NJ) - The FDU-Florham women's soccer team jumped out to a 2-0 lead and then had to hold on as the Devils picked up a 2-1 victory over visiting Delaware Valley College in a crucial Freedom Conference game.

FDU-Florham (formerly FDU-Madison) is now 11-4 overall and 4-2 in the conference. The Aggies fell to 8-8 overall and 1-3 in the Freedom and now must win their final three games of the season to keep their postseason hopes alive.

The Devils opened the scoring 31 minutes into the game as Patricia Chernego scored off a feed from Ashleigh Hoey. They made it 2-0 with 12:49 left in the second half as Vanna Capparelli set up Meghan Griswold for a goal.

Delaware Valley pulled to within one just two minutes later as freshman Ana Mecaj scored an unassisted goal. Mecaj now has 14 goals and 33 points this season and is ranked second in the conference in both categories.

FDU-Florham held a commanding 24-8 advantage in shots. Sophomore Lindsay Eversole stopped nine shots in the losing effort.
