2007 SEASON REVIEW
DOYLESTOWN (PA) -- The Delaware Valley College men's soccer team,
under new head coach Brian Kammersgaard, recently wrapped up its
2007 season. The Aggies went 2-16-1 overall and 0-5-1 in the Freedom
Conference.
Delaware Valley's first win of the season was a 4-3, come-from-behind
triumph at Immaculata University on September 15 and it snapped
the team's 37-game losing streak and 62-game winless streak. The
Aggies followed three games leader with an 8-1 victory at Southern
Vermont College (September 26) and they later notched a 0-0 tie
against conference foe FDU-Florham (October 20).
Sophomore forward Eric Maciag (Old Bridge, NJ/Old Bridge) was selected
by the Freedom Conference men's soccer coaches as a second team,
all-conference honoree. He paced Delaware Valley with six goals
and a single-season record seven assists for 19 points. The seven
assists tied for first in the conference while his point and goal
totals ranked sixth and eighth respectively.
Sophomore midfielder Matt Dias (Easton, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) and
freshman forward/midfielder Andrew Kelley (Ringwood, NJ/Lakeland
Regional) followed Maciag with four goals and one assist for nine
points apiece.
Midfielders Tom Drummond (Chalfont, PA/La Salle) and Nathan Knight
(Annville, PA/Palmyra) tied for fourth on the team in scoring with
four points each. Drummond, a 41-year-old junior and team captain,
appeared in 15 games and notched one goal and two assists. Knight,
a sophomore, played in 14 contests and assisted on four tallies.
Sophomore goalkeeper Steve Richtmyer (Mayfield, NY/Mayfield Central)
played in 10 games with four starts and racked up 39 saves and a
3.01 goals against average. He was in net for the team's 0-0 tie
against FDU-Florham.
Nick D'Amato (Penns Park, PA/Council Rock) was one of two seniors
on the squad. He started 14 of the 15 games he appeared in net and
also saw time in the field. He was credited with both wins, 105
saves and a 4.03 goals against average and also scored one goal
for two points.
Ken Dilts (Robbinsville, NJ/Lawrence) also concluded his collegiate
career and keyed an Aggie defense with sophomore team captain Kery
Swope (Marietta, PA/Elizabethtown). Dilts played in 17 contests
and finished with one goal for two points. Swope started all 19
contests and helped the defense notch one shutout on the year.
Sophomore defender/midfielder Josh Oman (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin)
also started all 19 games for Delaware Valley. He scored one goal
and assisted on another for three points.
Robert Davis (Milford, NJ/Delaware Valley), Lucas Waybright (Gettysburg,
PA/Gettysburg) and Matt Weiler (Philadelphia, PA/Roman Catholic)
rounded out the Aggie scorers with two points apiece. Davis, a freshman
forward/midfielder, had one goal in 13 games while Waybright, a
sophomore defender, assisted on two tallies in 16 appearances. Weiler,
a junior midfielder, played in 14 contests and scored one goal.
Sophomore Ryan Masterson (Hopatcong, NJ/Hopatcong) and freshmen
Mike Buffolino (Monroe Township, NJ/Monroe Township) and Joe Mastrine
(Marysville, PA/Susquenita) played significant roles for the Aggies.
Masterson, a defender, appeared in 15 contests while Buffolino,
a forward, saw time in 14 games. Mastrine, a forward/midfielder,
played in all 19 contests.
Freshman defender Shane Cunningham (Aldan, PA/Monsignor Bonner)
and junior midfielder Jon Trotta (Vernon, NJ/Sussex County Tech)
rounded out the Delaware Valley roster. Cunningham played in nine
games while Trotta appeared in eight contests.
