The University of Scranton 6, Delaware Valley College 0

DOYLESTOWN (PA) - The University of Scranton received goals from six different players and the Royals clinched first place and the top seed in next week's Freedom Conference playoffs with a 6-0 win at Delaware Valley College on Sunday.

Scranton improved to 10-3-3 overall and 6-0-1 in conference play. The Royals will host fourth-seeded Drew University in the Freedom Conference semifinals on Wednesday, November 1 (time TBA). Wilkes University will host DeSales University in the other semifinal match-up.

For Delaware Valley, its season ended with a 0-18 overall record and 0-7 mark in the conference. It is the third straight winless season for the Aggies.

Needing a win or a tie to clinch first place, the Royals quickly took control as they scored three times in the first 11:32 of the game. Andrew Pereira connected for his second goal of the year just more than two minutes (2:08) into the contest. Scranton was then awarded a penalty kick at the 6:45 mark and James Polles successfully converted for his first tally of the year. Ray Straccia made it 3-0 as he took a feed from Sebastian Akerman and scored his fifth goal.

The Royals made it 4-0 with just two seconds left in the first half as Gary Racich found the net for the third time this year. In the second stanza, Ralph Elliott and Tim Logan scored two minutes apart off assists from Pereira and Chris Giordano respectively. Logan's tally was his team-best ninth of the season.

Scranton held a commanding 29-6 advantage in shots, including a 20-2 advantage in the first half. David Keib and Rob Schwarting combined for the shutout with Keib stopping three shots. Steve Richtmyer notched 13 saves in the loss for the Aggies.
