Jim Clements is entering his second year as head coach of the Aggies
after serving as the team's assistant head coach/defensive coordinator
during the prior two seasons.
Clements led Delaware Valley to an 8-3 overall record, including
a 7-2 mark and a second-place finish in the Middle Atlantic Conference.
The team then reached the postseason for a fourth consecutive year
as they were selected for the ECAC South Atlantic Bowl.
Clements still serves as the team's defensive coordinator and the
unit was dominant in 2006 as they finished fourth in Division III
by allowing just 9.1 points per game. They were also in the top
15 in both total defense (14th - 220.0 avg) and pass efficiency
(15th - 88.8 rating). Delaware Valley helped all of those rankings
by shutting out its final three opponents in the regular season.
Seven players from the unit were named to the all-MAC team.
Clements arrival at Delaware Valley in 2004 was one of the key
reasons why the team posted back-to-back 12-1 records. The Aggies
captured the MAC championship and advanced to the NCAA Division
III quarterfinals each season.
In 200, Delaware Valley led the conference in both rushing defense
(108.1 avg) and total defense (290.9 avg) while also placing second
in both scoring defense (19.5 avg) and passing defense (182.8 avg).
The team posted two shutouts, including a 12-0 blanking of Wilkes
University that clinched the MAC championship. Five players were
named to the all-conference team and senior linebacker Andrew Erby
was selected as the MAC Defensive Player of the Year.
The following season, the Aggies led the conference in scoring defense
(18.2 avg) and finished second in total defense (312.1 avg) and
rushing defense (130.5 avg). Delaware Valley held its opponents
to 14 points or less in six of the 13 games and five defensive players
were once again named to the all-conference team.
Clements played at MAC rival Widener University and anchored the
defensive line as the Pioneers won the conference crown and reached
the 1994 South Region final of the NCAA Division III playoffs. He
was a three-year starter and recorded 154 tackles along the way.
Clements then served as a student-assistant in 1995 as Widener
successfully defended its conference title and reached the NCAA
playoffs. Clements returned to his alma mater two years later as
a graduate assistant coach and was elevated to a full-time position
in 1998. During that tenure, he coached the defensive lines as well
as the linebackers and special teams before eventually becoming
the defensive coordinator in 2003.
Clements received a Bachelor of Arts degree in history with a certification
in secondary education from Widener in 1996 and earned a Master's
in secondary education in 2001.
