Delaware Valley 26, William Paterson University 12

DOYLESTOWN (PA) - Freshman kicker Bill Miller tied a Delaware Valley College record with four field goals while fellow rookie Rob Wallace and sophomore transfer Taylor Ramos notched second-half touchdowns as the Aggies downed visiting William Paterson University, 26-12, in the non-conference season opener for both teams.

Miller connected from 30, 35, 30 and 26 yards to tie the school record set by Bob Hudoka against Wilkes University in 1981. Miller was also 2-for-2 on extra points to give him 14 points on the day - one shy of Hudoka's total against Wilkes.

Miller's first two field goals came in the first quarter as Delaware Valley (1-0) took a 6-0 lead. The Pioneers tied the game just 63 seconds into the second quarter as Mike Yackanin caught a 15-yard touchdown pass from Rob Garczynski. However Airam Moreno's extra-point attempt was blocked by Robert Wilkins.

Miller made it 9-6 with 2:38 to go before halftime with a 30-yard field goal. The points were set up by a William Paterson turnover as Tom Larsen fumbled a fair catch and the Aggies' Nick Brady recovered the ball at the Pioneer 12-yard line.

Garcyznski and Yackanin teamed up once again, this time from eight yards out, to give William Paterson its only lead of the game at 12-9 with 9:39 remaining in the third quarter. The play capped an 11-play, 65-yard drive on the opening possession of the second half.

However, it was all Delaware Valley from there as the Aggies scored the final 17 points of the game. They drove 56 yards on nine plays following the William Paterson touchdown, capped by sophomore quarterback Adam Knoblauch's 13-yard scoring strike to Wallace. Miller added the extra-point for a 16-12 lead with 4:40 left in the quarter.

Garcyznski was intercepted on two straight possessions including one by freshman defensive end Anthony Silver at the Pioneer 37-yard line. That led to Miller's record-tying kick, a 26-yard field goal with 25 seconds left in the third quarter for a 19-12 Delaware Valley lead.

The Aggies put the game away when Taylor Ramos scored on a 30-yard run with 2:35 remaining. The touchdown was set up by yet another William Paterson turnover as Silver forced a fumble and Wilkins recovered at the Pioneer 21-yard line. William Paterson had six turnovers in the game.

Ramos finished with 61 yards on 12 carries while fellow sophomore Steve Cook paced Delaware Valley with 76 yards on 15 carries. Knoblauch went 14-for-30 for 184 yards in the air. Cook caught four passes for 39 yards while Kevin Moloney added three catches for 71 yards. Wallace hauled in two passes for 48 yards, including the touchdown.

Silver paced the Aggie defense with nine tackles, one sack, one forced fumble and an interception. Senior safety Carlo DeAngelo had five tackles and two interceptions. Linebackers Sean DeLuca and Nick Sabean had eight tackles apiece.
