SUSQUEHANNA UNIVERSITY 49, DELAWARE VALLEY 28

DOYLESTOWN (PA) - Sophomore tailback Jordan Rawlins carried the ball 15 times for 156 yards and two long touchdowns as Susquehanna University picked up its first win of the season with a 49-28 victory over host Delaware Valley College in a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) game.

The Crusaders (1-2, 1-1 MAC) entered the game with just 10 points on the year, 50 rushing yards and 393 yards of total offense. They racked up 436 yards of offense in this game, including 295 yards on 39 running plays.

Leading the way was Rawlins, who took the second snap of the game and raced 48 yards into the end zone for a 7-0 Susquehanna lead. The Crusaders upped the lead to 21-0 in the first quarter as Bryan Strohl scored on a three-yard run and quarterback Mike Bowman hit Mark Bartosic for an eight-yard touchdown pass.

The Aggies (0-4, 0-4) hit the scoreboard with 39 seconds left in the quarter as Al Glackin's one-yard touchdown run capped an eight-play, 73-yard drive.
Susquehanna came right back thanks to an 80-yard kickoff return by Antoni Nash that put the ball on the Delaware Valley 8-yard line. Four plays later, Jason Eck scored from a yard out to make it 28-7 with 13:36 remaining in the first half.

Delaware Valley pulled to within seven at 28-21 as freshman quarterback Adam Knoblauch hit tailback Steve Cook for an 11-yard touchdown pass with 7:58 to go in the half, and later found Rich Gear for a 31-yard scoring strike with 3:14 remaining.

Delaware Valley tried an onsides kick but Susquehanna recovered at its own 43-yard line. Rawlins took the first handoff and went 57 yards for the touchdown at 28-14 lead with three minutes left in the half. Rawlins also had a 67-yard touchdown run in the third quarter negated by a holding penalty.

The two teams traded touchdowns in the third as Bowman hit Duane Park from 17 yards out for the Crusaders and Cook scored on a one-yard touchdown run for Delaware Valley. Eck and Susquehanna ended the scoring early in the fourth quarter as his three-yard run capped a seven-play, 44-yard scoring drive after an unsuccessful onsides kick attempt by Delaware Valley.

Gear caught five passes for 82 yards and one touchdown as the senior became Delaware Valley's all-time leader in receptions and receiving yards. Gear has now caught 158 passes for 2,663 yards to break 1985 graduate Dan Glowatski's totals of 153 receptions for 2,645 yards. Gear broke the receiving touchdowns record a week ago and has now caught 24 scoring passes in his career.

Gear helped Delaware Valley accumulate 459 yards of total offense in the game. Knoblauch completed 23 of 47 passes for 295 yard and two touchdowns. Fellow rookie David Carmon caught seven passes for 87 yards. Senior Al Glackin led the ground attack with 92 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries while Cook added 76 yards and a score on 17 rushes. He also caught two passes for 21 yards and a score.
