MORAVIAN COLLEGE 33, DELAWARE VALLEY 13

DOYLESTOWN (PA) - Moravian College quarterback Charlie Bowden completed nine of 11 passes for 187 yards and three touchdowns and also rushed for a team-high 47 yards and one score on three carries as the Greyhounds downed host Delaware Valley College, 33-13, in a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) game.

The win was the third in a row for Moravian, which improved to 4-2 overall and 4-2 in the MAC. The Aggies fell to 1-6 overall and 0-6 in conference play.

The Greyhounds scored the first 33 points of the game, including 19 in the first half for a 19-0 advantage at the intermission. Bowden led the quick start as, following a Delaware Valley punt, he directed Moravian on a six-play, 63-yard scoring drive on its first possession of the game. Bowden hit flanker Kevin Milenberger for a 33-yard pass to start the drive and later found Miltenberger in the end zone from 10 yards out. Nate Strohl's extra-point made it 7-0 with 7:25 left in the first quarter.

It stayed 7-0 for most of the first half as the Greyhouds hurt themselves with a pair of turnovers. However, they went on a 13-play, 80-yard scoring drive that culminated in tailback Dave Darmofal's two-yard plunge into the end zone with 1:55 to go before halftime. The key play on the drive was a 34-yard pass from Bowden to Jarod Rhinehart on a fourth-and-two situation from the Delaware Valley 41-yard line. The extra-point was blocked for a 13-0 score.

The Aggies took the ensuing kickoff and tried to get back into the ballgame. However, on the third play, freshman quarterback Adam Knoblauch was picked off by Nate Pogue and Pogue returned it 32 yards to the Delaware Valley 22-yard line. Two plays later, Bowden found Rick Kulp open for a 15-yard touchdown pass with 49 seconds left in the half. The two-conversion pass fell incomplete leaving the score at 19-0.

Bowden and the Greyhounds went back to work on the first drive of the third quarter as they drove 60 yards on six plays. Facing a third-and-9 from the Aggie 20, Bowden hit Miltenberger for a touchdown and a 26-0 advantage with 11:35 remaining in the quarter.

On their next drive, Bowden completed a 56-yard pass to Jed Warsager on a third-and-eight play. That put the ball on the Delaware Valley four-yard line and, two plays later, Bowden snuck in from a yard out for a 33-0 lead with 5:03 left in the third.

The Aggies got on the scoreboard with 1:05 left in the third quarter as Knoblauch found senior Rich Gear alone in the end zone from 30 yards out. The score gave Gear the school's all-time record for points with 162. It is the 11th Delaware Valley record that Gear has broken or tied in his outstanding career.

Midway through the fourth quarter, Knoblauch hit Giovanni Brooks on a short pass and the junior went 43 yards for the touchdown and a 33-13 final.

Knoblauch finished the day 25-for-48 for 254 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Gear caught seven passes for 86 yards and the one score while David Carmon made six catches for 37 yards.

Brooks had five catches for 83 yards and a touchdown. Defensively, Delaware Valley was led by linebacker Sean DeLuca and Andrew Erby who had 12 tackles apiece.
