King's College 50, Delaware Valley 14

DOYLESTOWN (PA) - Richard Jackson carried the ball 26 times for 142 yards and one touchdown and also threw a touchdown pass in a little more than two quarters of play as King's College scored 43 straight points to erase a 14-7 deficit and defeat host Delaware Valley College, 50-14, in a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) game.

Delaware Valley (0-3, 0-3 MAC) jumped out to its first lead of the season in record-breaking fashion as freshman quarterback Adam Knoblauch hit senior wideout Rich Gear for a 58-yard touchdown pass. The touchdown, which capped a six-play, 79-yard drive off the opening kickoff, was the 22nd of Gear's career and broke the Aggie all-time receiving touchdown mark that was held by 2000 grad Matt Altieri. Tom Rady added the extra-point for a 7-0 lead with 13:17 left in the first quarter.

The Monarchs (2-1, 2-0 MAC) responded with a 15-play, 80-yard drive that featured a pair of fourth-down conversions. Quarterback David Hessler ended the drive with a two-yard touchdown toss to Geoff Ashton and Bobby Nawrocki added the extra-point for a 7-7 score with 6:05 left in the quarter.

Delaware Valley needed just 34 seconds to respond as Gear got behind the secondary and Knoblauch hit him for 45-yard scoring strike. Rady's extra-point gave the Aggies a 14-7 lead with 5:31 to go in the quarter.

However, it was all King's from there as they responded with 43 straight points including 17 in the second quarter to take a 24-14 lead into the intermission. One of the turning points came on a fourth-and-14 from the Aggie 22 when Jackson took a pitch from Hessler and completed a pass to Chris Rispoli in the end zone. Nawrocki's extra-point tied the game at 14-14 with 7:46 left in the half.

On the ensuing drive, Delaware Valley faced a fourth-and-two situation at its own 25-yard line. Plans to go for it or a quick kick went awry as the snap sailed over Knoblauch's head and he was downed at the three-yard line.

Two plays later, Jackson found the end zone from a yard out. The extra-point gave King's the lead for good at 21-14 with 5:35 left in the half. The Monarchs added to the lead with six seconds to go as Nawrocki's 20-yard field goal capped a 10-play, 62-yard drive.

King's put the game away with 20 points in the third quarter. Silar Moore had touchdown runs of one and four yards while Hessler hit Clyde McCullough for a 56-yard touchdown. Backup quarterback then hit Matt Nicodemus for a 36-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter to end the scoring.

The Monarchs accumulated 492 yards of total offense with 248 in the air and 244 on the ground. Hessler finished the afternoon 11-for-19 for 185 yards and two touchdowns. Moore added 42 yards on 13 carries.

Delaware Valley finished with 282 yards but only 105 after the first quarter. Knoblauch, in his third collegiate start, completed 13 of 25 passes for 215 yards and two touchdowns.

Gear finished with eight receptions for 201 yards and the two scores and became the first receiver in Aggie history to post back-to-back 200-yard receiving games. He had seven catches for 220 yards in last week's loss at Albright.

Gear is also closing in on Delaware Valley's all-time marks for receptions and yards. He has 153 career catches for 2,581 yards and only trails 1985 grad Dan Glowatski's record totals of 154 catches and 2,645 yards.

Chris McIver led the rushing attack with 38 yards on six carries while freshmen Azaria Numerato and Reynaldo Fuentes paced the defense with eight tackles apiece.
