Delaware Valley College 9, Cedar Crest
College 0
DOYLESTOWN (PA) - Junior forward Michelle Cernoybl tallied four
goals and two assists and, in the process, tied the Delaware Valley
College all-time record for goals as the Aggies routed visiting
Cedar Crest College, 9-0, in a non-conference game.
The win improved Delaware Valley to 5-0 and the first such start
in the 34-year history of the program. The five-game winning streak
ties a school record that was set two previous times including last
year and the Aggies have now won eight straight regular-season games
dating back to last year. The only setback during that time was
a semifinal playoff loss to eventual Freedom Conference champion
King's College.
Cernobyl has scored in every game this season, including a pair
of four-goal efforts, and already has 13 goals and four assists
for 30 points in just five games. The goal and point totals are
already career highs for the all-conference forward and just two
shy of tying the Aggie single-season marks in both categories -
both set by Diane Bradley in 1981.
Tuesday's output upped Cernobyl career goals total to 38 and tied
her with Kristin Cottman, who set the mark from 2001 to 2004. Cernobyl
now has 87 career points and is just two behind Cottman's record
total in that category.
Despite having three players out with injuries, Delaware Valley
scored four goals in the first 10 minutes of the game, including
three in a 48-second span. Cernobyl began the scoring spree by taking
a pass from Amy Stafford and hitting the cage at the three-minute
mark. Cernoybl struck again off an assist from Stephanie Dec with
25:51 remaining in the half and they then traded positions as Cernoybl
set up a Dec goal just 17 seconds later. Bethany Pavlik followed
with an unassisted tally 31 seconds later for a 4-0 Aggie lead.
Delaware Valley added four more tallies in the first half for an
8-0 advantage. Cernoybl notched goal number three off a Pavlik assist
with 22:37 remaining and she then fed Danielle Heyne for the first
of her two goals with 18:36 left. Pavlik notched her second goal
of the game and 10th of the season with 13:27 remaining to move
the sophomore into ninth place on the all-time scoring list with
52 points. Heyne completed the first-half scoring off a Marissa
Di Miero assist with 1:20 to go.
Cernobyl's fourth goal came in the second half to end the game's
scoring. The Aggies held a 36-1 advantage in shots and a 17-2 advantage
in corners. Jackie Deschenes recorded one save and her third shutout
of the year. Rachel Orlen made 19 saves for the Falcons (0-5).
