Field Hockey - 2006 Season Archive
New
head coach Carol Di Girolamo and the Aggies finished the 2006 season
with a 10-9 overall record and qualified for the Freedom Conference
playoffs with a 4-3 league mark.
Delaware Valley, which was picked to finish last in the Freedom
in a preseason poll, tied a school record with a five-game winning
streak during the year. The squad then clinched a playoff berth
with back-to-back conference wins late in the year. In the semifinals,
the Aggies dropped a 6-2 decision at eventual Freedom Conference
champion King's College.
Delaware Valley took home a pair of conference awards as Di Girolamo
was named the Freedom Conference Coach of the Year and freshman
midfielder Bethany Pavlik earned Rookie of the Year honors. Pavlik,
who was also a second team, all-conference honoree, finished second
on the team in both goals (12) and points (27).
Sophomore forward Michelle Cernobyl and senior defender Dawn Eddis
were named to the all-Freedom first team. Cernobyl paced the Aggies
and placed in the conference's top five in both goals (13) and points
(29). Eddis led a Delaware Valley defense that notched five shutouts
on the season, including a pair of conference wins.
