Field Hockey Delaware Valley 4, Philadelphia
University 2 DOYLESTOWN (PA) - Four different players scored
goals for Delaware Valley, including Kristin Cottman's record-setting tally as
the Aggies downed Division II Philadelphia University, 4-2. The win was
the second straight for Delaware Valley as it improved to 6-7 on the year. The
Rams fell to 4-9 with the loss. Up 3-1 in the second half, Cottman scored
with 11:24 remaining for her 37th career goal. It broke the mark of 36 set by
1983 graduate Diane Bradley. The senior added an assist in the game to up her
career scoring total to a record 86 (she broke Bradley's mark of 73 points earlier
in the season). Cottman has nine goals and four assists for 22 points this season.
The Aggies took a 2-0 lead in the first half on goals by junior Tiffany LaRosa
and sophomore Bobbie Fultz. LaRosa connected on an unassisted tally just 2:14
into the game while Fultz scored 17 minutes off an assist from Stella Ruth. Both
players now have three goals on the year. Philadelphia University made
it a 2-1 contest late in the first half as Katie Urso scored off a Megan Zoltek
assist with 6:02 to go. However, Shannon Shivak made it a two-goal once again
as she took a feed from Cottman and notched her fourth goal of the season just
4:48 into the second stanza. Brooke Woodland scored the final goal of
the game for the Rams, who held a 23-15 advantage in shots. Freshman Corrie Small
stopped nine shots for the Aggies while Jessica Snyder made eight saves in the
loss. | |
