Field Hockey

Cabrini College 3, Delaware Valley 2 (OT)

RADNOR (PA) - Rebecca Gallagher's goal with 6:05 left in the first overtime lifted the Cabrini College field hockey team to a 3-2 victory over visiting Delaware Valley College in the season opener for both squads.

The Aggies had tied the game with 13:09 remaining in regulation as senior Kristin Cottman scored an unassisted goal. The two points moved the three-time, all-conference honoree into sole possession of second place on the Delaware Valley all-time scoring list. Cottman now has 66 points (29 goals, 8 assists) and is nine points shy of tying the record mark held by 1983 graduate Diane Bradley.

However, Gallagher won the game for the Cavaliers in the extra session as she took a feed from Kristina Paster and beat Aggie goalkeeper Corrie Small. Delaware Valley missed a golden opportunity to win the game 52 seconds into overtime, but Cottman missed a penalty stroke.

Cabrini led 2-1 at halftime on goals by Holly Orlando and Anne Tye. Delaware Valley received its goal from Stella Ruth, an unassisted tally with 5:46 left in the half.

The Cavaliers held a 16-7 edge in shots. Small finished with seven saves in the loss.
