Delaware Valley 4, FDU-Florham 2
Aggies Clinch Conference Playoff Spot With Victory

DOYLESTOWN (PA) -- The Delaware Valley College field hockey team clinched a Freedom Conference playoff berth for the second time in the last three years as the Aggies downed visiting FDU-Florham, 4-2.

Delaware Valley is now 7-12 overall but, more importantly, 4-2 in the Freedom Conference. The Aggies are third in standings and will travel to second-seeded Drew University next Wednesday, November 5 (game time TBA) for the conference semifinals. No. 1 Manhattanville College will host No. 4 King's College, which clinched a berth with FDU-Florham, in the other semifinal match-up.

Delaware Valley does have one non-conference regular season game remaining when it hosts College Misericordia on Thursday (3:00 p.m.).

Kristin Cottman scored two goals in the first half to help the Aggies erase a 1-0 deficit. Cottman's unassisted goal with 13:10 left in the half tied the game while her second tally off a Lindsay Higgins assist came with 7:30 to go. Cottman has a team-high 10 goals on the season.

Delaware Valley upped the lead to 4-1 with two goals in 62-second span in the second half. Sara Astbury scored off a Shannon Shivak assist with 10:53 to go and Shivak followed with a goal of her own off a feed from Marcy Nye.

The Devils (8-10, 2-4) received a goal and an assist from Lisa Parry as well as a goal from Kim Baica. Lila Alfaro made 15 saves for FDU-Florham while Lauren Duke stopped nine shots and picked up the win for the Aggies.
