Wilkes University 3, Delaware Valley 2

KINGSTON (PA) -- The Wilkes University field hockey team jumped out to an early 2-0 lead and never trailed in a 3-2, Freedom Conference win over visiting Delaware Valley College. The win improved the Lady Colonels to 8-4 overall and 1-1 in the conference while the Aggies fell to 4-8 overall and 1-2 in conference play.

Wilkes scored twice within a 57-second span in the first half to assume the lead for good. Just 3:05 into the half, Ann Marie Roselli hit the back of the cage off an assist from Maria Currier. Then at the 4:02 mark, it was Kim Whipple scoring off a pass from Roselli to extend the lead.

Delaware Valley closed to within 2-1 at intermssion as Sara Astbury defelcted a shot from Kristin Cottman into the goal with 19:12 gone in the first half. It was Astbury's fourth goal of the year.

Wilkes regained the two-goal lead in the second half as Kathy Kemper scored an unassisted goal. The Aggies got their final goal with just 1:05 left in the contest when Lindsay Higgins notched her first tally of the year off a feed from Katie Wesner.

Leigh Stiffler made 12 saves in net for the Aggies, who were outshot 19-9 in the contest.
